Q. What do we mean by 'Wellness'?

Wellness is a concept that stretches beyond the limits of physical health to look at the overall balance of our life through the various dimensions of which it is composed. To maintain good health and wellbeing, all of the dimensions in our lives need attention. If we spend too much of our time and energy focused in one dimension, our lives become out of balance and our overall wellness is affected.  All of the various dimensions relate to and affect each other explaining why if something happens in one aspect of your life it impacts upon another seemingly unrelated part.

The 6 Dimensions of Wellness depicted in The National Wellness Institute Model of Wellness developed by Bill Hettler are Social, Occupational, Spiritual, Physical, Intellectual, and Emotional.

These six areas provide a basic structure for which you can assess your life balance and identify areas or weaknesses that need addressing. For further information see Wellness is....

Q. What is 'Wellness Matters'?

Wellness Matters is a strategic staff program focused on promoting work-life balance to all employees of QUT. See QUT Wellness for further details on the Wellness Matters Program .

Q. How does 'Wellness Matters' benefit me as an employee at QUT?

Through the Wellness Matters Program, QUT employees have the opportunity to participate in University provided activities and initiatives aimed at supporting and improving elements of their Wellness and work-life balance while at work. Q. What is offered through 'Wellness Matters'?

Completed programs to be repeated at regular intervals:

  • Meditation
  • Aquatic Activities Come and Try
  • Stretch/Stabilisation Class
  • Fitball Class
  • Back and Balance Class
  • Financial Wellness Talks
  • Nutrition Seminar Series
  • Visiting Wellness Speakers (Ardell, Munson).

Q. Where are the wellness centres located?

Wellness Centres are located on Gardens Pont, Kelvin Grove and Carseldine campuses. See Staff and Centres for locations.

Q. How do I pay for products and activities which cost ?

Staff can now pay on QUT Virtual for Wellness activities (when there is a charge).

Payment may be made through ePay. Go to 'QUT Virtual', click on the 'ePay' link under 'Administration', click on 'Wellness Programs' in the left hand menu and follow the directions. All purchases made via ePay will be debited to your credit card. Amex, Visa, Mastercard, and Bankcard are accepted.

Alternatively, fill out a Request for Receipt Form entering the Pick Number '232' on the form for account details and pay by cash/cheque/credit card through any Campus Cashier.

Q. If I go on holidays do I lose the Wellness classes I've paid for?

No, you do not lose the sessions that you have paid for so long as you use them before the end of the academic year.

Q. Are instructors qualified?

The qualifications, credentials and experience of all instructors who provide programs/classes for the Wellness activities are checked.

Q. Can I offer assistance to the program?

There are a number of ways.

  1. If you have any qualifications or expertise in any Wellness related area and you  would like to discuss being involved in assisting to deliver the Wellness Matters Program to your colleagues, the Wellness Matters staff would be happy to have you contact them.
  2. You can become a volunteer Wellness Ambassador.
  3. You can represent your Faculty/Division or School/Department or organisation on the Wellness Matters Advisory Committee.
  4. You can be a Wellness advocate and role model for your colleagues in your work area. No specialised training required, just be your Well self and encourage them for their Wellness efforts.

Q. Can we form other Special Interest forums for discussions?

We welcome all employees' interests in Wellness. Remember there are six dimensions that you may be interested in pursuing. Contact Us to request the establishment of further Wellness Special Interest groups.

Q. Can my family (such as partner/children) attend wellness activities?

The Wellness Matters brief is for the provision of a Wellness program to employees of QUT only, not family members.

Q. Does the Wellness Program provide Work Integrated Learning (WIL) experiences for students?

We welcome enquiries from any Faculty/School program for the placement of students within the Wellness Matters Program for WIL experiences. For further details see Prac/volunteer opportunities.
