The Wellness concept is an emerging one at QUT and use of the term is becoming more commonplace and accepted.

I strongly encourage all staff to become involved in the Wellness Matters Program which encourages a healthy and productive working environment and aims to provide the motivation for staff to develop balanced work and personal wellness leading to an improved quality of life.

Dr Carol Dickenson
Registrar

QUT Wellness Program Historical Overview

The inaugural QUT Staff Wellness program emerged in the late 1990's from work done by the volunteer members of the Staff Health Promotion sub committee of the early 1990's and the School of Human Movement Studies Wellness related lectures within the Bachelor of Applied Science (Human Movement Studies) course which commenced in 1993.

Restructured in March 2004 as a three year project titled the 'QUT Wellness Matters Program', it now is a University-wide initiative supported by the Vice Chancellor and the Registrar. It continues to cater for all of QUT’s 4000 plus employees across four campuses in and around Brisbane CBD. Based in the Division of Human Resources, the program also collaborates with Health and Safety Advisory Services.

The two main program thrusts deliver Wellness activities for voluntary participation by individual employees, as well as working with work areas to deliver specifically designed programs as determined by a needs analysis. Enhancement of personal Wellness and Work-Life Balance, the creation of a Well organisation and a sustainable Wellness culture are the main objectives of the program.

Wellness Matters staff are qualified Allied Health professionals with expertise as Exercise Physiologists Health, Fitness, Rehabilitation and Wellness professions. Further information regarding Wellness Matters staff and QUT Wellness Centres may be found at Staff and Centres.

The Wellness Program actively collaborates with various sections of the Human Resources Department, Facilities Management, Health Services, Faculty of Health, the Health Clinics, Health and Safety Advisory Services the Student Guild, the QUT EAP provider and relevant external providers such as food services.

The QUT Wellness Matters Program is a financial member of the National Wellness Institute Australia Inc, National Wellness Institute (NWI), the Wellness Councils of America (WELCOA), and the Ardell Wellness Report.
