Wellness Challenges and Wellness Tips are offered to staff on a weekly basis. Periodically the Wellness Matters Newsletter is published on this website and sent electronically to employees who have registered as Wellness seekers on the Wellness self-subscribe interest list through QUT Virtual, Interest Groups page. Copies of Wellness related material are available from the Wellness Centres on each campus and from Wellness Ambassadors or by internal mail upon request via Contact Us. A small collection of Wellness publications are available for loan upon request. QUT Wellness Matters NewsletterPublished on a regular basis the Wellness Matters Newsletter provides an easy to read compilation of current and forthcoming Wellness activities at QUT. It contains news items about what is happening around QUT Wellness wise as well as summaries of Health and Wellness news and reports from around the globe Have your Wellness Matters newsletter delivered to your personal PC - click on 'Wellness' in the list of 'Self Subscribe Groups' accessed through the 'Interest Groups' section of the 'Administration' page on QUT Virtual. Ardell Wellness ReportThe Ardell Wellness Report (AWR) is a weekly (electronic) and quarterly (printed) newsletter. Donald B Ardell has produced the latter since 1984 and over 300 weekly electronic editions are in circulation (the E-AWR). Don is the author of a dozen Wellness books, the Director of the Wellness Center and is a popular speaker at events around the world. A copy of the current AWR is available from the Wellness Centres on each Campus or by request via Contact Us. Its purpose is to give the reader a 'refill' of endorphins for the upcoming month and includes articles on various topics like balance, stress, relationships, communication and leadership. PedometersQUT badged 'Walk 4 Life' pedometers displaying 'step number' and 'activity time' are available for purchase at below cost for $25.00. Swiss BallsExercises utilising Swiss balls develop and improve the body's stabilisation process. They are ideal for postural work, exercise rehabilitation, stability and balance work and back care. They can be used with resistance bands and other forms of resistance equipment. Fitballs are in stock and provide a usefull tool that can be used at home for postural awareness, core strength training, and fitness. The balls have are anti burst resistant to a load of 500 kg whereas the anti-burst rating of most Swiss balls is only 150 kg. Being anti-burst means that if punctured it will not explode but will deflate over about a 30 second period. This provides for a safer workout.

Thera-BandsThera-Band elastic resistance exercise tubing and bands are low cost, reliable and portable exercise tools that have been proven to increase strength, mobility and function. They are widely used in exercise rehabilitation centres by Physiotherapists and Exercise Physiologists. They are not only very useful for general wellness and fitness programs to improve strength and flexibility, but are also indicated for use in evidence-based exercise programs addressing resistance training for postural impairments, muscular strength imbalance, improving balance, flexibility and mobility. National Wellness Institute Monthly Wellness NewsPublished monthly by the NWI these brief news items provide a chance to (re)visit a number and variety of Wellness issues. They may be helpful in informing or educating about an issue, changing attitudes towards and beliefs about an issue or supporting a behaviour change. While the publication is American, the health issues are mostly global, especially in the western world, and as such are also relevant to Australian society. Wellness InventoryThe staff of the QUT Wellness Matters Program cannot always be immediately available when you need them. Therefore we recommend the Wellness Inventory as your alternate personal Wellness advisor, motivator, educator and coach. Your personal Wellness Inventory Program is as close as your keyboard and available 24/7/52. Take that BreakThe Wellness Matters program supports and promotes the importance of taking breaks to provide opportunities for improving mental health. Planning holidays, having a regular break away from the pressures of work during the weekend, and finding time for yourself through the week are simple strategies to help you manage stress and prevent depression. Anxiety and depression are one of the most commonly reported conditions found in the Australian workforce. Knowing how to identify stress and managing it is important for all employees.
